Crossing the Des Moines River in Des Moines is this large through girder span.
Built in 1905 to replace an 1880s style Quadrangular Through Truss, the bridge continues to operate today.
While one track has since been removed, the bridge still remains in good operational condition.
Utilizing eight standard through girder spans, the bridge rests on alternating concrete and stone substructures.
The author has ranked this bridge as being locally significant, due to the common design.
Despite this ranking, this large bridge is one of the landmark railroad bridges in Des Moines, located parallel to the Red Bridge.
The photo above is an overview from the east bank. The bridge can be accessed from numerous local streets.
